WiFi QR Code Generator
A code that joins a network. Guests point a camera at it and are on the WiFi without anyone reading a password out loud.
What happens when someone scans it
iOS and Android both recognise the format and offer to join the network. On iPhone it is a banner from the camera; on Android it is usually a prompt from the camera or Google Lens.
What the code actually contains
WIFI:T:WPA;S:Cafe Guest;P:flatwhite;;
T is the security type, S the network name, P the password. Semicolons, backslashes, commas, colons and quotes inside a name or password are escaped with a backslash. On an open network the type becomes nopass and the password field is left out entirely.
How to make one
Type the network name exactly as it appears when joining — it is case-sensitive, and a trailing space will stop the code working.
Type the password and pick the security type. WPA covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3; WEP is for old hardware; open is for networks with no password.
Style it and check the preflight panel.
Export it. For a table card or a wall notice, SVG or PDF prints sharper than PNG at any size.
Fields
ssidNetwork name (SSID)
passPassword
secSecurity type: WPA, WEP or open
The password is readable to anyone who scans it
A WiFi QR code is not encryption. Anyone who can point a camera at it can also read the password out of it with any decoder. It is a convenience for a network you were going to share anyway — a guest network — not a way to hand out a private one.
Hidden networks need the phone to know
The format has a hidden-network flag that Studio does not set, because it is ignored by most phones and confuses the rest. If your network does not broadcast its name, joining by code is unreliable no matter who makes the code. Broadcast the guest network.
Check it against the phone you expect guests to use
Scan it before it goes to print, with an actual phone, on the actual network. This is the type where a one-character mistake in a password is invisible until the code is on fifty table cards.
Questions
Does a WiFi QR code work on iPhone?
Yes. The camera app recognises the format and offers to join, with no app to install. Android does the same through the camera or Google Lens.
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The code is built in your browser and the password never reaches us. There is no upload step and no account. What you print is the only copy that leaves your machine.
What happens if I change the WiFi password?
The printed code stops working, because the old password is inside it. Print a new one. This is the reason to use a guest network with a password you do not rotate often.
