# vCard QR Code Generator

A code that saves a contact. For a business card, an email signature, a conference badge or a sign on a door.

Specimen · Level M

Live — scan it and the phone offers to save Mette Holm.

## What happens when someone scans it

The phone shows a contact preview — name, organisation, number, email — and offers to save it. It works with no network: the whole card is inside the code.

## What the code actually contains

```
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:Holm;Mette
FN:Mette Holm
ORG:Cafe Flatwhite
TEL:+45 31 21 45 78
EMAIL:mette@cafe.example
END:VCARD
```

A vCard, version 3.0 — the version both iPhone and Android import without an app. Name, organisation, phone, email and website each take a line.

## How to make one

1. Fill in the fields worth saving — name is required, the rest is judgement.
2. Leave out what you do not need; a vCard is the densest common type.
3. Style it and check the preflight panel.
4. Export as SVG or PDF if it is going on a printed card.

## Fields

- `name` Full name
- `org` Organisation
- `tel` Phone
- `email` Email
- `url` Website

## Nothing is fetched, nothing is tracked

The contact is read out of the ink, offline. The other side of that coin: a printed card cannot be updated. If your details change often, encode a URL to a contact page instead.

## Density is the constraint

Every field adds modules. A name, one number and one email scans easily at business-card size; add a website and an organisation and the code wants to be bigger. Studio’s preflight tells you when the module size drops below print-safe.

## Questions

### Can I add a photo?

No — a photo multiplies the payload and pushes the code far beyond what scans at card size. Phones show the saved contact with their own placeholder.

### Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Version 3.0 is the one both import natively; it is why Studio does not emit 4.0.

### Can I update it after printing?

No. The card is in the ink. Reprint, or encode a link to a page you can change.
